A cornerstone of the Myrovlytis Trust’s commitment to communication and collaboration is the BHD Symposium, which the Myrovlytis Trust sponsors and helps to organise. Enabling researchers from around the world to get together to chat, share information and brainstorm future projects is one of the main aims of our work.
Over the past three years the Symposium has expanded to take place over two days as the number of participants has grown. The Second BHD Symposium, held in Washington D.C., April 2010, emerged as a successful model for a productive integrated gathering of medical professionals, laboratory researchers and people affected by BHD. The programme for families included a talk with a genetic counsellor, Q&A sessions with specialists in BHD syndrome, and joint clinical research sessions. We are now using this model every year.
